How to Uninstall QuickBooks

QuickBooks is a financial management application from Intuit Inc. In this article we will discuss the steps you need to perform to remove QuickBooks from your Windows computer.

How to uninstall QuickBooks

Windows XP

  1. Click the Start button, click Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. In the Currently installed programs list, locate and select QuickBooks, and then click Remove.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the removal process.

Windows Vista

  1. Click the Start button, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Programs and Features.
  3. In the Currently installed programs list, locate and select QuickBooks, and then click Uninstall/Change.
  4. Click Yes if prompted to confirm your action.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the uninstallation process.

Windows 7

  1. Click the Start button, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Programs and Features.
  3. In the Currently installed programs list, locate and select QuickBooks, and then click Uninstall.
  4. Click Yes if prompted to confirm your action.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the removal process.

In case you want completely remove QuickBooks (perform clean uninstall), then you need to manually delete its folder and files. Refer the steps discussed below to perform a QuickBooks clean uninstall.

Configure folder options to show hidden files and folders

Windows XP

  1. Right-click the Start menu and then click Windows Explorer.
  2. Click the Tools menu, and then select Folder options.
  3. Click the View tab.
  4. In the Advanced Settings field, select Show hidden files and folders.
  5. Click the Apply button to save the changes.

Windows 7/Vista

  1. Click the Start button, type windows explorer in the Start Search box, and then press Enter.
  2. Click the Organize button in the upper left corner.
  3. Click Folder and Search Options.
  4. Click the View tab.
  5. In the Advanced Settings field, select Show hidden files and folders.
  6. Click Apply.

Manually Remove QuickBooks installation folders

In case the only Intuit product installed on your Windows computer is QuickBooks, remove the following folders:

For Windows XP

  • C:\Program Files\Intuit
  • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intuit
  • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit
  • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Common Files\Intuit

For Windows 7/2000

  • C:\Program Data\Intuit
  • C:\Program Data\Common Files\Intuit
  • C:\Users\[current user]\AppData\Local\Intuit
  • C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Intuit
  • C:\Program Files\Intuit
  • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intuit

In case other Intuit products such as Quicken, TurboTax, or ProSeries are installed on your Windows computer, delete only the following folders:

For Windows XP

  • C:\Program Files\Intuit

For Windows 7

  • C:\Program Data\Intuit

After you have manually removed QuickBooks installation folders, we recommend you run a registry scan using an advanced registry cleaner tool such as RegGenie to remove all the QuickBooks entries from your Windows computer.
