How to Uninstall Safari 5

What is Safari 5?

Safari 5 is the newest browser released by Apple Inc. for all OS platforms. It is also bundled as part of its Mac OS and iPhone OS or iOS, which supports Apple hardware, such as iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, etc. This browser has added features  and supports the newest HTML 5 standard. It supports a wide variety of scripts, such as JavaScript, PHP, etc., and provides Bing as its primary search engine. It provides a variety of tools that will help build extensions for Safari and enhance the user’s browser experience. This browser is the default in iPhone and iPad and cannot be uninstalled.

How to Uninstall Safari 5

Safari 5 can be uninstalled from the system like a regular browser, but it leaves a profile folder in the system that must be removed manually. To remove Safari 5 from Mac OS, you should follow the steps below :

  1. Drag the Safari icon to the trash to remove the files.
  2. Then Open Terminal.
  3. Type cd and it will reach the root directory.
  4. Type cd Application to reach the application folder and then browse to /Applications/Utilities/
  5. Type sudo pkgutil –forget
  6. Press Return and then enter the admin password and press return again.

This will remove Safari 5 from Mac OS completely.

To remove the Safari 5 browser from Windows, you can use one of these methods:

  1. Uninstall option in Control Panel
  2. Manual Removal
  3. Third Party software

Uninstall option in Control Panel– All windows operating systems have an uninstaller that helps uninstall software from the system.

  1. Restart your system.
  2. Hit the F8 key during boot up.
  3. Choose Safe Mode using the arrow keys and then press Enter.
  4. Click Start in Safe Mode and then click Control Panel
  5. Click on Program and Features in Win 7 / Vista or Add and Remove Programs in Windows XP, which displays the list of programs installed on the system
  6. Select Safari from the program list and then choose Change/Remove or uninstall

This will remove Safari 5 software from the system.

Manual Removal – Safari folders can also be manually removed by following these steps.

  1. Click on Start in Safe Mode and then Run
  2. Type %ProgramFiles% and press Enter.
  3. Delete the Safari folder from the Program Files folder that opens.
  4. Again type %Appdata% and press Enter.
  5. Delete the Safari folder from the folder that opens.
  6. Type Regedit at Run and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.
  7. Navigate to the following keys and delete the entries related to Safari from them.



Note: Make sure that you delete the Safari folder only, as there might be other folders related to iTunes, QuickTime etc.
