How to Uninstall Sims 2

What is Sims 2?

Sims 2 is a single-player life simulation game designed by Electronic Arts for Windows, Mac OS, Symbian OS and all gaming console platforms. It was the sequel of the popular game ‘The Sims’ and it became very successful as soon as it was released. It is a strategy game that requires players to control their Sims to perform activities and build relationships in the virtual world. It is one of the best selling games and was the first to provide a complete view in 3D.

The game became so popular that expansion packs were released at regular intervals and sold instantly. Sims 2 has an online store that allows players to buy content, hairstyles, objects, clothing, skins etc for their Sims.

I can’t uninstall the Sims 2 program and no longer use the game. What can I do?

You can employ the following methods to uninstall the Sims 2 game from your Windows system:

  • Sims Uninstaller program
  • Control panel option

Sims Uninstaller Program – Sims 2 provides its own uninstaller for the core gaming module and its expansions. To run the Sims uninstaller, follow these steps –

  1. Close Sims 2.
  2. Click on Start and go to All Programs.
  3. Navigate to Sims 2 and choose the Uninstall option, remember to uninstall the expansions first and then the core gaming module.

This will remove all the expansion packs and the Sims 2 game from the system.

Control Panel Option –Windows uninstaller is a part of all windows operating systems, which is used to uninstall programs from the system. Follow these steps to run the windows uninstaller –

  1. Close the Sims 2 game.
  2. Click on Start first and then Control Panel.
  3. Click on Program and Features in Win 7 / Vista or Add and Remove Programs in Windows XP.
  4. Select Sims 2 from the list of displayed programs and then click on Change/Remove or Uninstall.

Again, remember to uninstall the expansion packs first and then the game.

After uninstalling the Sims 2 software you can manually remove the folders and registry keys which are left on the system.  To remove the folders and registry keys follow these steps –

  1. Close the Sims 2 game application
  2. Type %Program Files%  and browse to the Sims 2 folder present in the EA games folder and delete it
  3. Close this window and type %Appdata% and again delete Sims 2 in the EA folder.
  4. Close all the windows and then in run type Regedit
  5. Browse to

    6. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE \EA GAMES\Sims 2
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\EA GAMES\Sims 2 and delete the Sims 2 directories in both and then browse for these keys in the EA folder for expansions and deleted them.

  6. Close your Registry Editor.

This will remove all traces of the Sims 2 game and once this is done restart your system.
